Image Plans

I have taken some of my images at indie band gigs, such as Circa Waves, The Wombats and Kodaline. I feel that by including some gig images, the atmosphere is conveyed across to the audience, which makes the magazine more appealing to read. I believe that the younger target audience appreciates more visual information and by including gig pictures, the magazine and the bands within feel more real. There is more excitement within live bands and seeing them in action on stage, which will encourage the audience to read further.

I have planned to take more images of individual people to act as band members. I believe this will allow the audience to develop more of a sense of the ‘artists’ character and this will help encourage the audience to find out more about them. I have chosen to incorporate glitter into the photographs, as a prop that the models can use. This will implicitly link with the main cover line which will be about The Wombats new album called Glitterbug. I have chosen to take the pictures with the models standing against a plain wall and with a decent amount of lighting to give the effect of images taken at a studio. This allows the people to contrast against the plain wall and make them stand out, also allowing the cover lines and other text to be more visible. However, I will aim to get a range of angles, facial expressions and selection of people, to give myself a wider variety of possible images to choose from and find which work best with my magazine. The models themselves will be made to wear indie-styled clothing and hairstyles, so the target audience will appeal more to the magazine.

Chosen Images

I have chosen this image to be in my magazine on the contents page. It will help display some other bands featured in the magazine. It features the artist clearly and it's a musical action shot, which adds to the atmosphere of the image- making the audience want to find out more about the performance. The bright green lights attract the readers eye and my target audience- late teens- will associate with the image as it is clearly taken at a gig. By using images at gigs, teenagers will be more interested in the images as they are known as one of their hobbies. Especially those that have an indie taste in music, as their favourite bands and artists tend to play at small venues.

Again, this image will be used on my contents page as it gives visual context to what is featured in the magazine. The action shot makes the image more appealing and interesting to the target audience. Also, the colours and tones of the image link with the colour scheme that I am choosing for my INDIE magazine. The band is also wearing a very indie rock style, which the target audience can relate to and will urge them to find out more if they like their style.

This will be used as the smaller image on my feature article double page spread. It links with the colours and tones from the main image I will be using. Although the image is fairly hard to see, this can be edited to improve the quality and lighting. The target audience will appeal to the image due to the live gig atmosphere and the appealing, bright colours.

This will be used as my main feature article image. It is good quality and links with the tones and colours of the image above to create an overall theme to the double page spread. It clearly features the entire band and using eye-catching colours to help make the page colourful and attention-grabbing. The style of the image is quite professional, as there are no other people in the way of the shot and it is taken from a low angle which makes the band look more powerful.

I have chosen this image as my front cover, as the person is facing to the camera, which makes the image more bold and significant. He is against a plain background which will be appropriate to add text around. He has glitter on his face and this implicitly ties into the main cover line of: The Wombats "Glitterbug" album. He is dressed appropriately and quite neutrally, so it won't over power the rest of the front cover and the text. He also has an indie style which may attract the teenage target audience better, as they may find him more relatable.

This image has been chosen for my contents page, as it links to the front cover with the glitter theme. Also, it is the same style of image, so it creates an appealing overall theme. As the shot is closer up, it allows the audience to find out more about him and encourages them to turn to the relevant page to find out even more. As he is closer to the camera, it allows the image to be more filled, without lots of plain space- unlike the front cover image. This makes the photo more interesting and doesn't require a busy background, which may distract from the text on the page.
