I have taken some of my images at indie band gigs, such as
Circa Waves, The Wombats and Kodaline. I feel that by including some gig
images, the atmosphere is conveyed across to the audience, which makes the
magazine more appealing to read. I believe that the younger target audience
appreciates more visual information and by including gig pictures, the magazine
and the bands within feel more real. There is more excitement within live bands
and seeing them in action on stage, which will encourage the audience to read
further.
I have planned to take more images of individual people to
act as band members. I believe this will allow the audience to develop more of
a sense of the ‘artists’ character and this will help encourage the audience to
find out more about them. I have chosen to incorporate glitter into the
photographs, as a prop that the models can use. This will implicitly link with
the main cover line which will be about The Wombats new album called
Glitterbug. I have chosen to take the pictures with the models standing against
a plain wall and with a decent amount of lighting to give the effect of images
taken at a studio. This allows the people to contrast against the plain wall
and make them stand out, also allowing the cover lines and other text to be
more visible. However, I will aim to get a range of angles, facial expressions
and selection of people, to give myself a wider variety of possible images to
choose from and find which work best with my magazine. The models themselves will
be made to wear indie-styled clothing and hairstyles, so the target audience
will appeal more to the magazine.
